Computer Engineering

York’s Computer Engineering program covers both software and hardware development. It combines theoretical foundations in physical and computer science with system, software, and hardware engineering concepts to prepare you to develop next generation computer applications, devices, and systems. Software development concentrates on the application of engineering design principles to encode effective, efficient and functionally correct computer software. Hardware development focuses on the design of hardware structures to support computer-controlled processes.
Hardware and software design come together in application development including robotics, machine vision, virtual reality, and communication networks.

As a Computer Engineering student, you will design and test hardware and software systems, as well as work with many aspects of computers, including microchips, multimedia, software, networks, and communications. Your studies in computation, software and hardware development, networks, operating systems and specialized fields such as robotics will prepare you to meet the challenges you will tackle during the senior Engineering Project or/and your placement in an elective industrial internship. York’s Computer Engineering program is accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB).
