Mathematics at York is offered as a BA and BSc through three diverse program areas to best meet your interests and career aspirations. For the first three semesters students take the same courses before choosing their specific program. The Applied Mathematics program gives you a solid base of knowledge in mathematics, with emphasis on its application to the sciences. The Mathematics program emphasizes the understanding of concepts, abstraction and reasoning; these then become the tools for higher level problem-solving. This program is suited to students who have a special fondness for pure mathematics. The Statistics program is an interdisciplinary field providing the foundations and techniques to collect, analyse and present information in an effective and efficient manner.
