SERVICES

ACCOUNTS - PASSPORT YORK

Effective February 8th 2012, FSE IT Computing labs (listed below) and network storage accounts are linked to your PASSPORT YORK login.

Previously, access to library and computing labs, and the Faculty's shared data service were managed through ACADLABs and FAS services.  In an attempt to streamline services, FSE ITS computing labs and the Faculty's shared data service, are now accessible through a single login process - PASSPORT YORK.

If you have previously maintained separate passwords for different services, please visit Manage My Services http://mms.yorku.ca to activate your single login.  Login to Manage My Services with your current Passport York credentials and then change your password to activate this service.

If you are a new member of the FSE Community - faculty member, researcher or administrative staff member - please contact FSE ITS for an overview of services and brief orientation - fseits@yorku.ca

Please check here for more details on PASSPORT YORK.

ACCOUNTS - Network Data Storage

The Faculty of Science and Engineering encourages community members to utilize the Network Share Data Service (previously known as FAS - File Access Service). The Network Data Storage service is available to Windows, MAC and Linux users.  PASSPORT YORK credentials should be used to access this service.

Network Data Storage - Administrative Staff

Administrative staff members are provided with the following mapped drives:

H Drive: Shared area - provides Departments and units with the ability to share common files.
X Drive: Home area
- this area is intended for personal data storage, typically training and resume materials.  Content stored on this drive, cannot be shared with other users.

Administrative staff who may require the creation of new folders and access rights assignments for new staff members/groups, should contact fseits@yorku.ca for assistance and advice.

Network Data Storage - Faculty members & Researchers

There are no costs associated with this service for faculty members and research staff.

Typically, faculty members and researchers will utilise a number of different computing platforms - Windows, Mac OS X, Linux/Unix.

For this reason, and to allow faculty members/researchers the flexibility to install applications, mapped/mounted drives are usually created manually i.e. faculty member/researcher computing resources are not managed by Windows policies. If you are unsure whether or not you have access to data folders on the FSE network, please contact fseits@yorku.ca

Information for Mac OS X users and Linux users will be posted here shortly.

If you have significant amounts of research-related data, please contact the Director, IT services to further discuss your storage needs.

ACCOUNTS - Email & Calendaring

Within those areas supported by FSE ITS, @yorku.ca email addresses are used for affiliated faculty members, researchers and administrative staff.  Presently, there are two email systems - Central Mail and Lotus Notes.  Lotus Notes provides calendaring, task management and instant messaging functionality.  These services are managed by UIT and further details are available on the UIT Email Support site.
