The Facilities Manager is responsible for managing all aspects related to the physical buildings which house FSc departments, including Life Science, Lumbers, Petrie, Chemistry and Farquharson.
The Facilities Manager works with various Campus Services and Business Operations (CSBO) departments to ensure properties are well maintained, secure and kept in a good and safe state of repair. The Facilities Manager is involved in construction and renovation projects from concept to completion, acting as the Faculty representative.
Maintenance needs involve items that are existing, and that are not working as they should. This would include plumbing leaks, lights or outlets not working, rooms too hot or too cold, etc. If you need a new electrical outlet, additional lighting, or new carpet, please see the Renovations section of this document. This is your contact with the CSBO Dispatch Desk in Facilities Maintenance and Custodial Services. They can dispatch a tradesperson to fix your tap, turn up/down the heat, change a light bulb, etc. Please be aware that all of these calls are placed in priority sequence. Custodial needs include garbage pick up, cleaning up of spills or leaks, etc. Remember this emergency number…X22401. They can dispatch a caretaker for cleaning. Custodial is now providing service as per the APPA guidelines. This document sets out the frequency of custodial tasks based on room type. The Facilities Manager is involved with all renovation projects, from installing a new electrical outlet, to full scale building additions to new construction. For small alterations, one can access the Facilities website and fill out a Service Request (SR) . Please ensure you provide an account number, or the request will be held up. Please note that all SRs are vetted by the Deans Office to ensure that the request fits with the overall space allocation plan for the Faculty. For larger renovations (office, lab, or larger), please contact the Facilities Manager at x22322 to discuss what you want to do before submitting a SR.
The Facilities manager can coordinate new furniture and furnishings for your space on an as-needed basis. If you find your seating uncomfortable, please contact the Health & Safety Officer for an ergonomic assessment before contacting the Facilities Manager.
Space in FSc buildings is managed by the Facilities Manager for the University. The space is considered University property, rather than belonging to a Department or Faculty. If you wish to obtain space, please contact the Facilities Manager. Space in FSc is allocated as closely as possible as per the York University Space Allocation Guidelines.
Requests for keys and access cards are channeled through each Departments administrative office, and administered in the Deans Office
