Our academic environment is focused on research, teaching and learning.
The core of our academic mission is to pursue research, teaching, and learning with excellence and innovation in an environment that is engaging and stimulating for students and research trainees at all levels and for professors and staff.
Research and graduate teaching occur in the laboratories and research groups of faculty members throughout our departments. In addition, some research areas are organized as centres (see below). Teaching and learning at the undergraduate level occurs through six departments (see below). The Division of Natural Science is also a key component of our undergraduate teaching mission.
Our six departments form the organizational home for some 140 faculty members and about 20 academic programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, reflecting the breadth and interdisciplinarity of our activities.
Bethune College is a hub of student life for science (and engineering) students. The College provides learning services such as peer mentoring and supplemental instruction aimed at ensuring a successful transition into life at York. It is also the home of many student clubs and associations.
