Integrated Science offers a number of benefits for first-year science students, including:
Small class size
With very limited enrollment, class sizes are approximately 1/10th that of some of the larger first-year science courses. You will quickly feel part of a cohesive and caring community, even though you are at a large university.
Integrated Science classes are scheduled in four-hour blocks (with breaks!), and labs are scheduled in three-hour blocks. This type of schedule is ideal for students who commute to York or have additional commitments outside of school.
Innovative and evidence-based teaching and learning methods
As an Integrated Science student, you will cycle through four carefully designed stages of learning – Prepare, Apply, Solidify, and Integrate – to deepen your understanding of scientific concepts. Professors use evidence-based teaching practices (including fun demos in class!) to guide your learning process.
Strong faculty connections
You will get to know your professors very well so that you can start building your professional network. Your professors will often sit in on classes even if they are not teaching that day!
Depth and breadth in the sciences
If you like all of the sciences and aren’t sure exactly what you want to focus on yet, then Integrated Science provides you with the opportunity to explore all of the traditional sciences before entering the second year of any of our York Science programs.
Preparation for health professional exams
If you are considering writing your MCAT, PCAT, or DAT, then Integrated Science can help you to acquire the necessary background in biology, chemistry and physics, as well as, critical thinking and reasoning skills.
