Integrated Science is designed around the connections between disciplines. Some connections are inherent, while others are driven by larger themes explored in integrated team projects. In 2016-17, we focused on habitability and sustainability. However, we like to innovate so stay tuned for the 2017-18 themes!
Fall Term: Mars and the Origins of a Habitable Planet
Is Mars a habitable planet? This question is currently driving billions of dollars of space research and exploration. Evidence of liquid water was recently found on Mars, but does that mean that it can or ever could support life?
The habitability of Mars was investigated in three projects that focused on:
- Rocket Science
Winter Term: Sustainable Earth
While the search for life continues both within and outside of our solar system, Earth is the only planet known to sustain life. However, some of the ways that we use Earth’s natural resources are completely unsustainable, and may impact Earth’s ability to sustain life as we know it. How can we be better stewards of our precious planet?
Sustainability is explored from different perspectives, including:
- Environment: Ozone depletion and acid rain
- Policy: United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
- Energy: Solar power and biofuels
- Health: Population dynamics and food security
Through Integrated Science, you will learn to approach problems and develop solutions from an interdisciplinary perspective, applying your knowledge and skills within and across disciplines.
