This is an overview of the insect world. Insects are the most numerous species on earth and have penetrated every environment. They constitute more than half of the known species of animals. The presentation will examine the enormous diversity of the group, emphasising the way in which they interact with humans: as a general nuisance, as threats to health, as destroyers of crops and forests, as producers of valuable products (silk, honey, etc), and increasingly as food for humans.
